Hello, I'm Carlos — a Product Designer with 15+ years of experience working on complex, technical problems, finding ways to make them easier to understand and use.
I've spent 15 years designing for technical products — from digital agencies to startups to large-scale platforms. I started in digital design at Fullsix–Havas, moved into product at Mailjet and Dailymotion, and spent the last six years at Datadog shaping search, security, and observability workflows used by tens of thousands of engineers daily.
I approach design with systems thinking, a comfort with data, and a focus on clarity. I'm drawn to problems where the information is dense, the stakes are high, and the users are experts who need tools that match their speed — not slow them down.
I prototype in code — React, Claude Code, Cursor — not because it's faster, but because static mocks can't capture the things that actually matter: latency, ranking, real empty states, live data. The Cmd+K redesign shipped from a working prototype I built with live API integrations across 12+ Datadog endpoints. Stakeholders tested the real experience, not a simulation of it. Parts of that prototype went directly to production.
At Datadog, I design the AI surfaces engineers interact with daily — Natural Language Queries in the Logs Explorer, the Bits AI search experience, and Cmd+K as the platform's AI command layer. These are design problems without established patterns: LLM output that needs to feel trustworthy, interactions that degrade gracefully when the model is wrong, feedback loops that make the system smarter. That intersection — AI capability meeting human trust — is where I want to work.
